AIIMS & NEET Medical Entrance Tests

The most prestigious medical entrance examination in India are AIIMS and NEET. AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences) entrance examinations are conducted by AIIMS itself and NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) is conducted by CBSE. AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences) Entrance Examination : AIIMS is the dream college for all the medical aspirants of the country. AIIMS was established in 1956 in Delhi and now operates in seven more locations - Bhopal, Bhubaneshwar, Jhajjar, Patna, Raipur, Rishikesh and Jodhpur, offering a total of 700 MBBS seats, for which lakhs of aspirants prepare for and write the test every year.

A candidate must fulfill the criteria given below before applying for AIIMS MBBS examination:

• The candidate must be of Indian origin.
• Candidates belonging to Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) category should be registered under Section 7A of Indian Citizenship Act 1955 and they must submit their registration proof while applying for admissions.
• Candidates applying for admission to AIIMS MBBS entrance examination should have completed a minimum of 17 years of age.
• Candidates should have appeared and passed class 12th board exam or equivalent examination recognised by AIIMS Delhi. It is mandatory for candidates to have studied Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English in class 11th-12th.
• Candidates belonging to General and OBC categories should have secured a minimum of 60% aggregate marks in the above mentioned subjects while those belonging to SC, ST and OPH categories are entitled to a relaxation of 10%.

NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test): NEET is entrance exam for admission to about 54,000 MBBS / BDS seats across all the Medical / Dental Colleges that are run with the approval of Medical Council of India / Dental Council of India under the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India except for the institutions established through an Act of Parliament e.g. AIIMS and JIPMER Puducherry.

A candidate must fulfill the criteria given below before applying for NEET examination:

• The candidate must have passed class 12th examination with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate, and must have passed in the subjects Physics, Chemistry, Biology / Biotechnology and English individually.
• For SC / ST / OBC categories, marks obtained in Physics, Chemistry and Biology / Biotechnology taken together in HSC examination is 40% marks.
• The candidate applying for NEET must be an Indian citizen.
• The upper age limit for candidates seeking admission through NEET is 25 years. For candidates belonging to SC / ST / OBC categories, there is a relaxation of 5 years.
